Microsphere collision in oil ripple

The sample is part of a silicon circuit, but covered with a thin layer of oil left over from using a 100x oil immersion lens. The lens had previously been looking at micropheres just 5 microns in diameter and many of these were picked up with the lens and transferred to the silicon sample, where the little beads remained, either lying on the sample, or suspeneded in oil.

This video is made using a 40x lens, above and looking down on the silicon, microspheres and oil.

I added a drop of immersion oil at the edge of the sample, and this oil ripples across the sample and displaces the microspheres. In the centre of the image a microsophere appears to be stuck to the surface of the sample. Another micropshere carried along in the ripple of oil collides with it.

Clideo is an online video resizer. I have used it to scale down the height and width of the video captured from my bio-nanoscope (1728×1728) to be just 1080 pixels in height, which is called Full HD, i.e. high definition. The width has been padded to 1920 pixels to create the correct aspect ratio without distorting the image.
